    Professor in the Faculty of Political Science and Economics, Waseda University, councilor at Daiwa Institute of Research, and senior fellow at the Tokyo Foundation. Born in 1950. After majoring in agricultural economics at the University of Tokyo, joined the Economic Planning Agency in 1974 and received a master’s degree in economics from the University of Hawaii in 1979. Has served as an executive research fellow in the Cabinet Office’s Economic and Social Research Institute and chief economist at Daiwa. Author of Wakamono o migoroshi ni suru Nihon keizai (The Japanese Economy Leaves Young People in the Lurch), Naze Nihon keizai wa umaku ikanai no ka (Why the Japanese Economy Isn’t Working), and other works.
