• Nakano Toshiya

    Head of the Marine Environment Monitoring and Analysis Center in the Japan Meteorological Agency’s Global Environment and Marine Department. Born in 1962. Earned a degree in marine science in 1984 from Tōkai University; later received a PhD from Tōhoku University. Joined the JMA in 1985, working at the Nagasaki Marine Observatory. After working as a technical specialist at the Oceanographical Division, a researcher at the Meteorological Research Institute, and a senior scientific officer at the Global Environment and Marine Department, assumed his present post in 2016. He specializes in analysis of JMA oceanic observational data to elucidate long-term fluctuations in the marine environment of the Northwest Pacific.
