Roger Pulvers

Author, playwright, and theater director. Born in New York in 1944. First came to Japan in 1967. Became an Australian citizen in 1976. Has published widely in Japanese and English, including novels, short stories, plays, essays, and translations including his version of Miyazawa Kenji’s “Ame ni mo makezu,” which won the 2013 Noma Award for the Translation of Japanese Literature. His translations of Miyazawa’s poems are published under the title Strong in the Rain. He has recently directed the film of his novel Star Sand. The film is due for release in 2017.
