Tokyo, March 20 (Jiji Press)—Executive board members of the operator of a golf course to be used in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics decided at an extraordinary meeting Monday to admit women as official members.

The decision to change the member admission rules was decided after the course operator, Kasumigaseki Country Club, held meetings with existing members on the matter three times.

In the first meeting, a majority of attendants opposed the rule revision to accept female members. But opinions in favor of the change prevailed in the last two meetings.

The golf course in Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, was picked as the Olympic golf venue in 2012 through the domestic screening process.

Although the International Golf Federation highly rated the course, Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko said in January this year that she felt it was strange that the club still discriminated against women in the twenty-first century.
