2013 House of Councillors Election Results at a Glance

The House of Councillors election on July 21, 2013, gave the Liberal Democratic Party and New Kōmeitō a healthy majority in the upper house. As a result, the so-called twisted Diet, with the upper and lower houses of the parliament under the control of opposing parties, has been eliminated after dominating Japanese politics since the 2007 House of Councillors election.
