Hayashi Michiko

Photographer. Born in Tokyo. Graduated from the Department of Aesthetics and Art History, Tokyo University of the Arts. Worked for a time in corporate advertising before earning a degree in photography at Tokyo Polytechnic University. As a freelance photographer, she has explored themes like the separation of humans from the natural environment. Her two-volume photobook Hodophylax: The Guardian of the Path, documenting the veneration of Japanese wolves, was awarded the International Portfolio Review Fujifilm Award at the 2018 Kyotographie International Photography Festival, and photos from the project were included in the opening exhibit of Tokyographie, an affiliated event held the following year. Was a finalist in the open submission category of the 2019 Belfast Photo Festival.
