Ishi Hiromitsu

Born in Tokyo in 1937. Graduated from the department of economics at Hitotsubashi University. A specialist in public finance, he taught for many years at his alma mater, serving as president from 1998 to 2004. Served as chairman of the government’s Tax Commission from 2000 to 2006, and as president of the Open University of Japan from 2007 to 2011. Currently professor emeritus at Hitotsubashi University and the Renmin University of China.
