    Former researcher at Dai-Ichi Life Research Institute. Specializes in the study of death, dying, and the practices associated with them, lifestyles of the elderly, and the issue of funerals. Born in Osaka Prefecture. After completing her master’s degree at Nara Women’s University, joined the Life Design Research Institute (now part of Dai-Ichi Life Research Institute) in 1993. Completed her doctorate in human science in 2009. Works include Hitori shi jidai no osōshiki to ohaka (Funerals and Graves in the Era of Dying Alone) and Hitori shūkatsu: fuan ga kieru banzen no sonae (Preparing Alone for Death: Dispelling Worries with Total Planning).
