Legal scrivener and freelance writer. Born in 1966 in Ehime Prefecture. Graduated with a degree in Chinese literature from the University of Tokyo. Worked for an academic publisher before going freelance in 2001. As an openly gay activist, has written widely on subjects of concern to the LGBT community, including elderly life for gay people and living with HIV. Works to provide legal support to sexual minorities.

Last year a graduate student at Hitotsubashi University killed himself after he was outed as gay. His family has taken the university and the student who exposed him to court. Despite superficial acceptance in popular entertainment, deep-rooted prejudices and discrimination against sexual minorities remain strong in Japan.
