Sasaki Megumi

Film director and producer. Born in Sapporo, Hokkaidō. Based in New York since 1987. Worked as a freelance journalist before joining NHK’s US bureau in 1992. Now works independently, providing reporting for television news and documentaries. Made her directorial debut with the 2008 Herb & Dorothy, a film about a married couple who managed to amass one of the world’s most important collections of contemporary art by saving their humble salaries as public servants. In 2016, she completed her third film, Okujira-sama: Futatsu no seigi no monogatari (A Whale of a Tale), which was shown in competition at the Busan International Film Festival and has been showing in Japan since September 2017. She has also published a book with the same title, her first work of nonfiction.
