Executive vice president and chief operating officer, U.S.-Japan Council. She served as senior advisor to US Ambassador John Roos from March 2010 to September 2012 and has been involved in creating and developing the TOMODACHI Initiative. She is a former officer in the United States Navy and served as a country director for Japan in the Pentagon in 2004–2006 and as director for Japan in the Office of the Secretary of Defense in 2006–2010. She received a master's degree in Asian Studies from the George Washington University. In 2008 she received the inaugural Katō Ryōzō Award for service to the US-Japan alliance.
