Tanaka SendōTANAKA Sendō

Chairman of Dai Nihon Chadō Gakkai and chairman of Santokuan, the foundation operating this tea ceremony association. Was born in Shinjuku, Tokyo, in 1958. Did doctoral studies in sociology at the University of Tokyo. Writings include Ocha to kenryoku: Nobunaga, Rikyū, Hideyoshi (Tea and Power: Nobunaga, Rikyū and Hideyoshi), Sen no Rikyū tenkaichi no chajin (Sen no Rikyū: Peerless Tea Master), Okakura Tenshin chanohon o yomu (Reading The Book of Tea by Okakura Tenshin), and Kindai chadō no rekishi shakaigaku (Historical Sociology of the Modern Tea Ceremony). His lay name is Tanaka Hidetaka.
