    Chairman of the Nagasaki Global Citizens’ Assembly for the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons and visiting professor at the Nagasaki University Research Center for Nuclear Weapons Abolition. Born in Nagasaki in 1943. Formerly professor of hematology at Nagasaki University School of Medicine and director of Nagasaki Genbaku Hospital. Actively involved in the nuclear disarmament movement as a member of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War. Exposed to radiation at the age of two, together with his mother, 2.7 kilometers from the hypocenter of the Nagasaki atomic bombing.
