    Professor at the Hitotsubashi University School of International and Public Policy. Earned her degree in economics from the University of Tokyo and her doctorate from the University of Essex, and worked for Japan’s Economic Planning Agency and Cabinet Office before taking her present position in 2024. Specializes in labor economics and applied microeconometrics. Her current research focus includes shifts in Japanese employment practices, the impact of minimum wage hikes, and the relationship between university education and lifetime income levels. Recent publications include “Effects of Mandatory Residencies on Female Physicians’ Specialty Choices: Evidence from Japan’s New Medical Residency Program” in Labour Economics, Vol. 90 (2024).
