• Watanabe Akio

    Vice chairman of the Research Institute for Peace and Security. Born in 1932. Graduated from the University of Tokyo, where he majored in Japanese history. Received his PhD from Australian National University. Taught at the University of Hong Kong, Meiji University, the University of Tokyo, and Aoyama Gakuin University; is now a professor emeritus at the University of Tokyo and Aoyama Gakuin University, as well as chairman of the Japanese Society for Defense Studies. Author of Ajia Taiheiyō no kokusai kankei to Nihon (International Relations in the Asia-Pacific Region and Japan), Ajia Taiheiyō to atarashii chiiki shugi no tenkai (Shaping the Future: The Asia-Pacific in the Twenty-first Century), and other works.
