Watanabe Tsutomu

Professor in economics at the University of Tokyo, where he specializes in macroeconomics, especially monetary policy and price. Born in Chiba in 1959. Earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Tokyo and his Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University. Assumed his present post in 2011 after working at the Bank of Japan and Hitotsubashi University. He is the coauthor of Atarashi bukka riron: Bukka suijun no zaisei riron to keizai seisaku no yakuwari (A New Theory of Prices: The Financial Theory of Price Levels and the Role of Economic Policy) and Property Price Index: Theory and Practice and the editor of Mansei defure: Shin’i no kaimei (Investigating the True Causes of Chronic Deflation).
