Yamaguchi Shinji

Senior research fellow, China Studies Division, Regional Studies Department, National Institute for Defense Studies. Specializes in Chinese politics, Chinese security policy, contemporary Chinese history, CCP party-military relations, and US-China relations. Earned his PhD in political science at Keiō University. Was an assistant professor at Keiō and a researcher at NIDS before being appointed to his present position in 2015. Author of Mō Takutō no kyōkoku-ka senryaku (Mao Zedong’s Grand Strategy for Building a Strong Country), awarded the Asia-Pacific Grand Prize by the Asian Affairs Research Council in 2022.
