Japanese NPO Donates Judo Uniforms to Palestinian Children (News)

Al-Bireh, West Bank, Dec. 28 (Jiji Press)—A Japanese nonprofit organization promoting judo around the world donated some 40 judo uniforms, including those for children, to the Palestinian Judo Federation on Wednesday.

In the donation ceremony held on the same day in the West Bank city of Al-Bireh, Jibril Rajoub, president of the Palestine Olympic Committee, said he is grateful for Japan's contributions to Palestinians in judo and other fields.

Since 2010, the nonprofit organization, Solidarity of International Judo Education, has been engaged in exchanges with Judo-related officials of both Israel and Palestine.

Although judo is not yet a common sport among Palestinians, demand for judo uniforms, especially for children, is growing, according to officials of the organization.

The organization, led by All Japan Judo Federation Vice President Yamashita Yasuhiro, a 1984 Los Angeles Olympic gold medalist, thus decided to donate the uniforms to Palestinians, with the help of the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
