Osaka Bidding Committee for World Expo 2025 Launched (News)

Tokyo, March 27 (Jiji Press)—A public-private committee on Osaka's bid to host the 2025 World Exposition was launched on Monday with the government seen submitting the western Japan city's candidacy as early as April.

"Once we raise our hand, we must win the race," Sakakibara Sadayuki, chairman of the Japan Business Federation, or Keidanren, said at the inaugural meeting of the bidding committee in Tokyo.

"We will work under the banner of 'All Japan' and are resolved to win support from other countries," said Sakakibara, who was appointed to lead the committee.

The inaugural meeting was joined by popular comedy duo Downtown, who will act as ambassadors for the campaign.

"We hope that a World Expo held in Osaka for the first time in 55 years will bring excitement across Japan," Hamada Masatoshi of the duo said, noting that he visited Expo 1970 in Osaka.
