Abe Cabinet Approval Rating Rises to 41.8%: Jiji Survey (News)
Tokyo, Sept. 15 (Jiji Press)—Public support for Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzō's cabinet rose 5.2 percentage points from August to 41.8% this month, outpacing disapproval for the first time in three months, a Jiji Press poll showed on Friday.
The disapproval rating plunged 7.4 points to 36.7%.
The results are believed reflect strong support for the Abe government's response to North Korea's sixth nuclear test, carried out on Sept. 3, and recent ballistic missile launches.
The monthly public opinion survey was conducted by interviews for four days through Monday, covering 2,000 people of 18 or over across the country. Of them, 63.8% gave valid responses.
In the poll, 81.3% of the respondents said they feel North Korea's nuclear and missile development is a real threat, while 15.4% said they do not feel it has reached such a stage.[Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
