Production of Honda's Super Cub Scooter Tops 100 Million Units
Tokyo, Oct. 19 (Jiji Press)—Cumulative global production of Honda Motor Co.'s Super Cub scooter topped 100 million units this month, 59 years after its sales started in 1958, 10 years after the founding of the company.
A ceremony to mark the milestone was held on Thursday at Honda's plant in the town of Ozu in the southwestern prefecture of Kumamoto, the firm's only motorcycle production base in Japan.
The Super Cub was developed under the leadership of late Honda Sōichirō, the founder of the company. The scooter has been popular among a wide range of people on the back of its accessible features and designs.
Thanks to its excellent economic efficiency and durability, the scooter is used also for delivery services for foods and newspapers.
At present, the Super Cub is produced in 15 countries and sold in more than 160 countries.
