Tokyo, Nov. 1 (Jiji Press)—Sony said Wednesday that it will launch the fully remodeled Aibo canine robot on January 11 next year, marking the return of the robot pet after a hiatus of 12 years.

Equipped with artificial intelligence and communications function, the new Aibo is much smarter than its predecessors.

The Japanese electronics giant in 1999 launched the first-generation AIBO, which was the first robot pet in the country. Although the cute robot became a hit, Sony ended production in 2006 as its business deteriorated.

The new Aibo, priced at ¥213,840, has a rounded appearance and can make delicate movements such as tilting its head.

It can recognize each of the family members based on their registered photos and remember actions that please its owners.
