Yamato Offers ¥2,000 Hourly Pay for Night Drivers at Year-End (News)

Tokyo, Nov. 15 (Jiji Press)—Yamato Transport Co. is recruiting temporary drivers for nighttime parcel deliveries in December by offering an hourly pay of ¥2,000 in some regions, informed sources have said.

Yamato is offering more than double the legal minimum wages to secure enough drivers for the period, when delivery demand is expected to surge due chiefly to Christmas and year-end gifts, the sources said.

Some of Yamato's service bases in Yokohama, south of Tokyo, have raised the hourly pay for temporary drivers for nighttime parcel deliveries for December to ¥2,000 from ¥1,500 a year before, the sources said.

Yamato also set an hourly pay of ¥2,000 for such drivers in some areas in Aichi Prefecture, central Japan.

Yamato offers temporary drivers hourly wages that vary region by region, taking into account the amounts of parcels handled and other factors. Due to a driver shortage, hourly wages are increasing.
