Ex-DP Leader Renhō to Join CDPJ (News)
Tokyo, Dec. 26 (Jiji Press)—Former Democratic Party leader Renhō applied Tuesday for membership in the major opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan after submitting a resignation letter to the DP the same day.
At a press conference after making the membership request to CDPJ leader Edano Yukio, Renhō said she decided to join the new party because its policies are clear.
"The DP is helpless as it still puts priority on reinvigorating its regional organs," She said. "I put the top priority on policies."
The CDPJ was created by Edano and other former liberal members of the DP before October's House of Representatives election and emerged as the largest opposition force in the all-important lower chamber of the Diet through the election.
The party is expected to accept Renhō's membership soon, informed sources said.[Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
