Keidanren Picks Hitachi's Nakanishi as Next Head (News)

Tokyo, Jan. 9 (Jiji Press)—The Japan Business Federation, or Keidanren, decided Tuesday to have its Vice Chairman Nakanishi Hiroaki succeed current Chairman Sakakibara Sadayuki, 74, who will retire as Keidanren head at the end of May.

The decision was made at a meeting of the chairman and vice chairmen of Japan's biggest business lobby.

Nakanishi, 71, also chairman of electronics and machinery giant Hitachi Ltd., is slated to take the helm of Keidanren through the group's annual gathering on May 31.

It will be the first time for a Hitachi official to head the group of major Japanese companies.

Having served as a Keidanren vice chairman since June 2014, Nakanishi has a good relationship with the administration of Prime Minister Abe Shinzō, working as a private-sector member of a government panel on investment for the future.
