Support Rate for Abe Cabinet Rises to 46%: Jiji Poll (News)
Tokyo, Jan. 19 (Jiji Press)—The public support rate for the cabinet of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in January rose 4.0 percentage points from the previous month to 46.6%, a Jiji Press survey showed Friday.
The disapproval rate for the cabinet fell 2.5 points to 33.6%, according to the opinion poll conducted for four days through Monday.
The results are likely to have reflected an attempt by the Democratic Party and the Party of Hope, both opposition parties, to create a parliamentary group despite differences in their policies on the national security legislation enforced in 2016. The attempt later ended in failure.
The government has decided to introduce long-range cruise missiles in response to the increasing threat from North Korea, which is continuing nuclear and missile development programs.
The survey found 49.6% approved the decision, exceeding 38.3% who showed opposition.[Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
