Renewable Energy Use (2008)

A3: 3%

Renewable energy sources comprise 3% of Japan’s primary energy supply as of 2008. The ratio is as high as 10% for electricity alone, with that mainly coming from hydroelectric power plants. In July 2012 the government introduced a new system of feed-in tariffs, which fix prices for renewable energy fed into the electrical grid by customers, with the goal of improving the proportion of the energy supply coming from solar and other renewable sources.
