Kamafuse Observation Deck: Spectacular Views Day and Night

The Mount Kamafuse Observation Deck

On clear days visitors can see Hokkaidō from the Mount Kamafuse Observation Deck.

The observation deck near the 879-meter summit of Mount Kamafuse, the highest peak on Shimokita Peninsula in Aomori Prefecture, affords views of emerald-colored Lake Usoriyama on Mount Osore, the mountains of the Hakkōda Range that surround Mutsu Bay, and the famed lighthouse at Cape Shiriyazaki. On clear days visitors can even see Hokkaidō across the Tsugaru Straights. From the deck there is a 420-meter public walkway that extends to the mountain summit.

The view by night is equally spectacular, with the lights of nearby Mutsu spreading like a butterfly’s wings. The view is considered part of Japanese heritage night views and is considered as one of the 100 best Japanese night views.

Access: Approximately 30 minutes by car from Mutsu.
