Introducing the Akita Dogs That Await Visitors to Senshū Park in Akita City: Haruka-hime

Guide to Japan Lifestyle

The Akita Dog Fureai-Dokoro (“touching place”) in Senshū Park, Akita, has a rotating crew of dogs for visitors to meet. For the third in our series introducing the canine crew members, we feature Haruka-hime, an Akita female.

Senshū Park is on the site where Kubota Castle formerly stood. This was the stronghold of the Satake clan, which ruled this area during the Edo period. Haruka-hime enjoys walking around the park and smelling flowers as she goes. Then she returns to the Fureai-Dokoro to greet human visitors.
