Uchinada, Ishikawa Prefecture: Sunset Bridge and a Seaside “Power Spot” for Couples

Guide to Japan Travel Lifestyle

Sunset Bridge Uchinada takes its name from the fact that it is especially attractive when lit by the rays of the sun setting into the Sea of Japan. Artificial illumination in seasonal colors enhances the suspension bridge’s appearance as the sky darkens. Located in the town of Uchinada, Ishikawa Prefecture, the bridge is also visible from neighboring Kanazawa, the prefectural capital, and it has become a local landmark. The area around here, including the Uchinada seashore, has been dubbed a “Lovers’ Paradise” by Katsura Yumi, a bridal fashion designer. Near the bridge is a lookout point with a double-heart sculpture and a roofed platform with a “bell for happiness” for visitors to ring. Here couples can also draw fortune slips foretelling the future of their love. The platform offers a 360-degree panorama, including views of the Sea of Japan, Mount Haku (Hakusan), and Tateyama mountain range. This destination is now establishing a reputation as a “power spot”—a fountain of spiritual energy—for love.
