Ōkubo Shōji, head of the Metropolitan Police Department’s lost and found center checks a tag on one of roughly 900,000 umbrellas stored at the facility. The center received over 380,000 lost or forgotten items in 2016 collected at train stations and other locations around Tokyo. According to Ōkubo upward of 3,000 umbrellas are recovered on rainy days, most of which go unclaimed as the majority of people find it easier to just go out and buy a new one. (© Jiji.)
