A Solemn Duty: Rolls Containing Names of Atomic Bomb Victims Aired at Hiroshima Monument (Japan in Photos)

A municipal employee at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park carefully examines books inscribed with the names of the more than 300,000 atomic bomb victims on May 17, 2017. The 112 tomes were removed from the stone chest that is part of the arched cenotaph at the park so they could be checked for damage and allowed to air. World leaders visiting Hiroshima frequently lay wreaths at the monument, which is inscribed with the phrase: “Let all the souls here rest in peace, for we shall not repeat the evil.” (© Jiji)
