Workers at Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki Prefecture constructed a huge geoglyph depicting a Shiba-inu dog and two puppies to celebrate the upcoming year of the dog in 2018. The artwork is made from plant material including kochia and pinecones and measures some 22.5 meters long and 27 meters wide. Although difficult to see from ground level, visitors can appreciate the work from the park’s Ferris wheel until January 8, 2018. The piece incorporates the kanji 安 (an), symbolizing peace for the year ahead. Photograph taken on December 13, 2017. (© Jiji)
