The Nikkei stock index extended losses early Friday afternoon, briefly dropping by 2 percent as selling accelerated amid caution over recent rallies and a lack of fresh trading cues also slowed buying momentum. At 12:45 p.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 555.79 points, or 1.7 percent, from Thursday at 32,709.09.
