URGENT: Japan’s core consumer prices rise 3.1% in July on year

Core consumer prices in Japan increased 3.1 percent in July from a year earlier, government data showed Friday.
The core consumer price index, excluding volatile fresh food items, remained above the Bank of Japan’s 2 percent target for the 16th straight month. The pace of increase slowed from 3.3 percent in June.
