URGENT: Japan’s core consumer prices in August rise 3.1% on year

Core consumer prices in Japan increased 3.1 percent in August from a year earlier, government data showed Friday.

The core consumer price index, excluding volatile fresh food items, remained above the Bank of Japan’s 2 percent target for the 17th straight month.
