Nikkei opens higher after Dow ends at record level for 3rd day

The Nikkei stock index was higher in early trading Thursday, tracking upbeat U.S. equities as the Dow Jones Industrial Average overnight ended at a record high for the third straight session. In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average advanced 170.71 points, or 0.56 percent, from Wednesday to 30,462.90. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 1.01 points, or 0.05 percent, at 1,960.48.
