Japan's core private-sector machinery orders fell 8.5 percent in February from the previous month, government data showed Wednesday. The orders, which exclude those for ships and from electricity utilities due to their volatility, totaled 769.8 billion yen ($7 billion), according to the Cabinet Office. They decreased for the second straight month following a 4.5 percent drop in January. Machinery orders are seen as a leading indicator of capital spending.
