URGENT: U.S. pledges to cut greenhouse gas emissions roughly in half by 2030

The United States on Thursday announced it will approximately halve its greenhouse gas emissions from 2005 levels by 2030 as President Joe Biden seeks to spearhead global efforts to tackle climate change. Under the new target, which Biden will announce during a virtual climate summit he will host later in the day, the United States will seek a 50 to 52 percent reduction in global warming-causing emissions, an administration official said.
