Japan's core private-sector machinery orders gained 0.6 percent in April from the previous month, government data showed Wednesday. The orders, which exclude those for ships and from electricity utilities due to their volatility, totaled 802.9 billion yen ($7.3 billion), according to the Cabinet Office. Machinery orders, seen as a leading indicator of corporate capital spending, rose for the second straight month.
