Talks begin for U.K. to join Pacific free trade pact

Negotiations began Tuesday for the United Kingdom to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade pact as the country is aiming to enhance its economic presence in the region following its departure from the European Union. International Trade Secretary Liz Truss held online talks with Yasutoshi Nishimura, Japan's minister in charge of TPP negotiations. Tokyo holds the 11-member bloc's rotating presidency this year.
