Tokyo stocks open higher on dip buying, Wall Street gains

Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday, tracking overnight gains on Wall Street, as investors bought on dips after the Nikkei index closed the previous day at its lowest level since mid-October. In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 277.82 points, or 0.98 percent, from Monday to 28,561.74. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 19.15 points, or 0.98 percent, at 1,967.63.
