Japan's core private-sector machinery orders rose 3.6 percent in December from the previous month, government data showed Thursday. The orders, which exclude those for ships and from electricity utilities due to their volatility, totaled 932.4 billion yen ($8.1 billion), according to the Cabinet Office. The increase in machinery orders, seen as a leading indicator of corporate capital spending, followed a 3.4 percent rise in November.
