Japan considers allowing nuclear reactors to operate beyond 60 years

Japan is considering extending the maximum service life of its nuclear reactors beyond 60 years to support its goal of reducing carbon emissions while providing a stable supply of electricity, sources close to the matter said Wednesday.

The plan, which also aims to restart nuclear power plants that have passed screening by regulators, will be announced at a conference on industrial transformation and decarbonization later in the day.
