Household spending in Japan increased 3.4 percent in July from a year earlier, government data showed Tuesday. Households with two or more people spent an average 285,313 yen ($2,031), the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said. The data is a key indicator of private consumption, which accounts for more than half of the country's gross domestic product.
