Core consumer prices in Japan gained 3 percent in September from a year earlier, government data showed Friday, topping the threshold for the first time since 2014. The nationwide core consumer price index, excluding volatile fresh food items, stayed above the Bank of Japan's 2 percent target for the sixth straight month. It rose for the 13th straight month amid higher commodity prices and a weaker yen versus the U.S dollar.
