U.S. President Joe Biden intends to announce his support for the African Union joining the Group of 20 major economies as a permanent member, White House national security spokesman John Kirby said Friday.
The announcement is expected to be made during a U.S.-Africa summit to be held in Washington next week, Kirby said.
