Tokyo, July 18 (Jiji Press)--Hino Motors Ltd. <7205> said Tuesday that it will sell small electric buses and trucks, starting around 2020, in an effort to reduce vehicle emissions.

The Japanese automaker has set a goal of cutting the amount of carbon dioxide that its new vehicles release while driving by 90 pct in 2050 from 2013.

"We aim to pursue the possibility of electrifying all our models," Shin Endo, executive vice president at the commercial vehicle unit of Toyota Motor Corp. <7203>, said at a briefing on the company's environment technologies.

While overseas rivals are shifting their focus to electric vehicles, Hino aims to continue developing diesel-electric hybrids.

"The experience of hybrid development can apply to electric and fuel-cell vehicles," Endo said.
