Inpex Launches Gas Production in Northern Australia
Sydney, July 30 (Jiji Press)--Japanese resources developer Inpex Corp. <1605> said Monday it has started producing gas at the Ichthys offshore field in northern Australia.
The Ichthys field will produce some 8.9 million tons a year in terms of liquefied natural gas, equivalent to 10 pct of Japan's annual LNG imports.
This is the first time that a Japanese company has led a large-scale LNG project.
Gas sent from the Ichthys offshore field will be processed into LNG at a facility in Darwin, northern Australia.
As well as LNG, liquefied petroleum gas will be also shipped from the facility.
