Typhoon Cimaron Makes Landfall in Western Japan

Tokyo, Aug. 23 (Jiji Press)--Strong Typhoon Cimaron made landfall in the Shikoku western Japan region on Thursday night.

The 20th typhoon of the year is expected to pass the Shikoku, Chugoku and Kinki western regions before moving out to the Sea of Japan in the early hours of Friday, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The agency warned of heavy rains, strong winds and high waves.

Some areas may experience more than 1,000 milliliters in total rainfall from Typhoon Cimaron and Typhoon Soulik, the 19th of the year.

Typhoon Cimaron made landfall in southern Tokushima Prefecture around 9 p.m. (noon GMT).
